Worldview is a web-based project of the Architectural League of New York that invites architects from around the world to present reports on what is new and interesting in architecture and urbanism in their cities, with a particular focus on cities and regions that are not adequately reported on by the mainstream architectural press. At the moment, the project counts with the following cities: Tijuana, Caracas, Oslo, Dhaka e Beirut. In each city you will have a list of interesting architectural practices, some really good essays, nice images, historical mappings and timelines, stats and much more. The Oslo page is organized by Thomas McQuilan and Lisbeth Funck. The later was my teacher in Oslo. Props :)
Ross Lovegrove [check him at TED] has designed a collection of bathroom appliaces for the Turckish company VitrA.
"Josef Schulz does not aim at exposing this architecture in any way nor does he want to venture into a critical analysis of its appearance. He simply uses the photographs of the buildings to study the grammar of his trade."
"Schulz starts by taking traditional photographs of the halls, storage facilites and industrial structures with large sized photographic plates. Using digital image processing, the analogue picture produced is then "cleansed" of the few remaining hints pointing to age, location or environment of the buildings.Texto de / Text writen by: Thomas Ruff.
He uses this type of processing to eliminate the gap between "photographic" and "painted" reality for the benefit of optimizing the picture. At the same time, he reverses the photographic process by reducing the physical buildings to their design concepts and the photographically "real" picture to its original "virtual" one."
Melissa designed by Zaha Hadid. I have one question only: Why can't I find an image of these kicks worn in some damsel's feet? Just one, is it too much to ask for? Yes I've seen the one with the cgi legs, but I'm talking about the real deal. I went all the way through page 25 of google image search... Why?
This is nothing really new, but I recalled an exhibition which made me remember another one, for some reason I don't recall, and I decided to share.I hereby share two examples: "The New Real in Architecture" by Toyo Ito and "Head-In" by Magma Architecture.
Everybody has noticed how architecture is fashionable, for good and evil. And everything which is fashionable need to be divulged. The more social way of doing so is through an exhibition. Architecture exhibitions have something special to them, though. And even more if the exhibition is an instalation by itself.
Toyo Ito's exhibition oficial website where you can find an interview with the architect as well as a nice image gallery: AQUI. But I recomend googling for extra images nevertheless.. It's worth it.

Frank Kunert was born in Frankfurt in 1963. After graduating from high school, he became a photographers’ apprentice (from 1984 – 1987). Thereafter, he worked for various photo studios. He went freelance in 1992, and it was then that he began to find the topics that interested him the most. In recent years, Kunert has mainly focused on creating and taking pictures of his "Small Worlds".
A multi-storied apartment building with gray-beige stucco: the epitome of lower middle-class tristesse. A throw rug and a doormat hang over the balustrade of a balcony. Another has a single flower box, a third, a deck chair. A familiar sight at first glance. After a second or third take, however, it becomes perfectly clear that something is amiss. The balcony doors lead nowhere, and the balconies themselves are not accessible. In "Apartment with balcony," there is no architectural scandal attempting to be uncovered by photographer Frank Kunert. The photograph stems from a series of works entitled "Photographs of Small Worlds," which ingeniously, slyly and subtly play with our sense of perception, as well as with our expectations -- taking both ad absurdum.
The complete text may be read in the photographer's website, along with a gallery full of images: Photographs of Small Worlds. READ!!!

It was with joy I received the news that Apple would use Intel technology which would allow the use of Windows as a root OS. This fact took away from me any doubt I had about switching for Mac. And why did I have doubts before? Well, because many CAD (CAM) applications I use are Windows based only. An example is AutoCAD. And because Autodesk never shown any indications of an upcoming Mac OSX version, I just gave up on waiting and resigned to install Windows in my Mac machine.
It's with enormous pleasure I annouce that finally Autodesk has recognized the importance of Apple users. Autodesk is asking users to complete a survey wich will help them shape the new generation of MacOS products. There are some interesting question as the importance of the command line and how the user plots. You can answer the survey and help Autodesk shape their new products.
Psd tuts+ posted a list of 50 free lessons on graphic design. The lessons cover subjects from typogarphy to user interface going through design and clor theory, layout and grid based design. See it HERE.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day (1st December 2008), 4AD announced the official release date, complete list of participating artists and cover art for its release, Dark Was The Night.
Dark Was The Night was released on February 16th 2009 (Worldwide). Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, with John Carlin (founder of the Red Hot Organization) its executive producer. A total of thirty-two exclusive tracks were recorded for the compilation, which is available as a double cd, triple vinyl and download album, with profits benefitting the Red Hot Organization - an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS.
Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease - using music as a great vehicle to raise both money and awareness for it. This is also the twentieth year of Red Hot as well as their twentieth compilation.
The complete list of artists (in alphabetical order) that recorded tracks for this release are:
Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2009 will be celebrated around the world on Sunday April 26th. A pinhole camera is a very simple camera with no lens and a single very small aperture. Simply explained, it is a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through this single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box - it's the principle of the Camera Obscura.Check out the official website and look in events if there is a workshop going on near you. Some examples of pinhole photographs next. One can see more images tagged with "pinhole" in flickr or in its pinhole clusters.
I found a place where you can download some pdf's with instructions on how to make some very cool pinhole cameras. Like they say: "Take a break from your computer! Download, print and build your own pinhole camera. Follow the instructions and enjoy!" Do visit.
"Bjørvika, a harbour in the eastern part of Oslo, Norway, has become a hot spot for architectural innovation. We have the brand new Oslo Opera by Snøhetta and the recent competition for the Oslo Central Station awarded to Space Group.
And a recent planning/design competition -actually 2 competitions- just added two cultural buildings to the harbour: the Munch-Area, which will have the new Munch-museum with a collection of the Stenersenmuseum, and the Deichman axis withav the Deichman Library.
Both competitions included invited practices and a stage on which practices applied for pre-qualification.
The winning project for the Munch Museum was Lambda, by Herreros Arquitectos. The winning project for the Deichman Library was Diagonale, by Lund Hagem Arkitekter and Atelier Oslo."
As seen in Arch Daily:
